essential oils for sleep

Who needs a good night’s sleep?  Chances are…..you do!  Sleep is the time when our bodies rest, recover, and rejuvenate.  It’s also the time when kid’s puke, husband’s snore, and the neighbor’s dog starts barking, right?  If you have your essential oils handy,  you can incorporate them into a regular routine to promote sleep, rest, and relaxation.

My favorite way to use essential oils for sleep is to use an essential oil diffuser.  An essential oil diffuser breaks down the oil molecules and sends them drifting into the air.  You inhale the molecules and they transmit a message to your brain.  The correct oils will transmit the message RELAX.  Which essential oils are good for sleep?  A lot.  Check out this list.

Essential Oils that Promote Rest

  • lavender
  • vetiver
  • wild orange
  • ylang ylang
  • cedarwood
  • Roman chamomile
  • clary sage
  • patchouli
  • marjoram
  • Balance
  • Peace
  • Serenity

Plenty to choose from, right?  Lavender is a commonly used sleep oil and the first one to try if you are new to essential oils.  After you start playing around, you will find a combo that you love and that works best for you.  Your children might prefer another oil or blend.  That’s o.k.  You can put a diffuser in their bedroom, too.  It’s safe, simple, and they will love it.  You can even ask them what oils they would like to diffuse.  Children love routines and they love choices.  And they know what works best for them.  My 11 year old often asks for vetiver.  It’s her sleep oil.

Here are a few of my favorite diffuser sleep recipes.  Enjoy playing around with them!
