Willa Blue, my 7 year old, frequently asks me to make applesauce.  If you haven’t tried home-made raw applesauce, it’s absolutely wonderful.  It’s also super easy to make.  Though we both like applesauce, my girl and I vary slightly in our tastes.  She prefers red apples and a fine puree.  I like a chunky Granny Smith or Golden Delicious.  We both like a healthy dose of cinnamon.  When making applesauce, be sure and keep the skin on as much of the nutrients are in the skin.

Raw applesauce is incredibly easy to make.  I slice my apple, toss it into the Vita-mix and add a liberal amount of cinnamon.  For my chunky applesauce, I pulse it (basically turn the Vita-Mix on and off quickly) until I reach the desired consistence.  For my girl’s applesauce, I add a bit of water and puree on high.

Be forewarned, it’s hard to go back to store-bought after eating this stuff.
